Sergei Krajev, 64, died on Tuesday after being found critically injured on Battersea Bridge at about 00:30 BST on Monday, prompting the Metropolitan Police to open a murder investigation.
Police said the assault happened on a pavement outside Krajev's stationary bus at a stop, and he was taken to hospital by air ambulance after the attack.
Gary Jones, 32, of Twickenham, has already appeared in court charged with causing grievous bodily harm, was remanded in custody and is due at Kingston Crown Court on 15 June.
Krajev's family called the Transport for London driver a "wonderful husband, father, and grandfather" and said he was punctual, reliable and dedicated to helping others.
Detective Inspector Sarah Lee said officers were working with Transport for London and urged anyone with information to come forward, citing concern across the local community and public transport network.
