Thirty-seven percent of Americans approve of Trump’s job performance and 62% disapprove, leaving his overall rating broadly unchanged from recent months.
Republican approval of Trump’s handling of the economy fell to 63% from 78% at the start of his second term, while his economy ratings overall remain below early-term levels and far under his first-term standing.
Immigration remains Trump’s strongest issue: approval rose to 45% from 40%, its highest level this year.
Foreign policy and Iran ratings were relatively steady, with Republicans still much more likely than Democrats or independents to back Trump across the presidency, economy, immigration and foreign affairs.
The AP-NORC poll surveyed 1,117 adults on May 14-18 and had a margin of sampling error of plus or minus 3.8 percentage points.
