An April 7 ceasefire deal between Israel, the US and Iran took effect on April 8, marking a halt after weeks of regional strikes and retaliatory attacks.
The truce followed Israel’s Operation Roaring Lion and the US operation Epic Fury, launched on February 28 with the stated aim of creating conditions for regime change in Iran.
An Israeli strike on a Tehran bunker killed Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, while Iran’s defense minister and several IRGC generals were also killed in what the report described as the IAF’s largest-ever aerial attack.
Iran retaliated with missile fire across the Middle East targeting Gulf nations, US bases and Israel, where ballistic missile attacks since February 28 killed 12 IDF soldiers and 23 civilians and injured at least 7,693.
CENTCOM also said 13 US soldiers were killed, underscoring how the conflict had spread beyond Israel and Iran before the ceasefire took hold.
