Google Reveals Android 17 Two-Device OS Verification in QPR1 Beta 3

QPR1 Beta 3 exposes Android 17’s new OS verification flow, showing users will need a second trusted device with a browser to confirm their phone’s software is authentic.
The process has the phone generate software-based identifiers, send them via QR code to the trusted device, and then ask users to compare the information shown on both screens.
Google is positioning the tool as a simpler alternative to today’s more manual firmware-check methods, adding another layer alongside protections such as Android Verified Boot and Pixel Binary Transparency.
The feature is not yet functional in the beta: scans currently stall because no app appears assigned to the transparency:// protocol, leaving the full workflow for a later Android 17 beta or release.
