THW is adding 66 new Unimog U 5025 emergency vehicles, with deliveries to its 66 regional offices scheduled in stages through 2026.
The order is aimed at strengthening civil protection after Germany's devastating 2021 floods highlighted the need for off-road vehicles that can reach stranded people quickly.
Each vehicle gets a 252-hp engine—21 hp more than the previous series model—and is built for harsh terrain with 1,200 mm fording depth, 500 mm axle articulation and 480 mm ground clearance.
The standardized platform includes radios, blue lights, a reversing camera and hydraulic systems, while a flatbed, crane and 10-foot interchangeable modules let crews carry pumps, generators and other rescue gear.
The Unimog deal extends THW's recent fleet expansion with Daimler Truck, which already supplies more than 240 Atego-based specialist carriers for floods, fires and other large-scale disasters.
