Amazon Prime Video released “The Boys” series finale on Wednesday and said the franchise will continue with two spinoffs, “Vought Rising” and “The Boys: Mexico.”
“Vought Rising” is slated for 2027 and will trace the origins of Vought’s supe program, with Jensen Ackles returning as Soldier Boy; no release timing was given for “The Boys: Mexico.”
Showrunner Eric Kripke said the final season’s plot—Homelander effectively taking over the United States—drew on patterns of authoritarian creep and ended up echoing current events more closely than expected.
Kripke and cast members framed the show’s blunt satire as part of its appeal, arguing that exaggeration, memes and grotesque set pieces helped spotlight real-world absurdities.
The finale closes a run that began in 2019, while Amazon keeps the Vought universe alive even after recently canceling college-set spinoff “Gen V” after 2 seasons.
