A lone baker hid in the back of Georgetown Cupcake after a man hurled a stolen beer keg through the shop’s front window around 11:30 p.m. Sunday, and D.C. police are now asking the public to identify him.
Surveillance reviewed by the bakery and neighboring businesses shows the suspect first failing to rip up a metal trash can, then returning with a keg taken from outside a nearby home before attacking the M Street storefront.
Police say the same man is tied to a broader string of Georgetown vandalism, including another business damaged about 5 a.m. on April 24; newly released images show him holding a black object and wearing a purple paper bracelet.
The attack came during Georgetown graduation weekend amid wider concerns about late-night disorder on the busy M Street corridor. Georgetown Cupcake reopened Monday, and police are offering a $1,000 reward for information leading to an indictment.
