Spencerport’s $107 million school budget failed 798-745, the only budget defeat reported across Monroe County’s school votes, leaving the district to choose between a contingency budget and a June revote.
East Irondequoit voters approved shrinking the school board to seven seats from nine, effective 2027, with the district citing declining enrollment for the change.
Board races also brought turnover elsewhere: Greece incumbent William Maloney lost to newcomer Jenne LaPlaca, while Penfield voters replaced two incumbents with Stacy Lonardo and Susan Kavanagh.
Penfield’s result followed board president Aaliyah El-Amin-Turner suspending her re-election campaign days earlier, citing racist vitriol; she still received 820 votes, and Superintendent Tasha Potter condemned attacks on Black and brown leaders.
Most other Monroe County districts approved their budgets, including Greece’s $335.4 million plan and Brighton’s $114.7 million budget, though Tuesday’s tallies remain unofficial pending final certification.
