$100,000 in annual funding is on offer as the Mandela Rhodes Foundation opens applications for the 2026 Äänit Prize, a social-impact award for African entrepreneurs, changemakers and impact-led organisations.
The prize is open to Mandela Rhodes and Rhodes scholarship alumni from 2005 onward who are founders, co-founders or executive team members of Africa-based initiatives with measurable or potential social impact.
The 2026 edition broadens eligibility beyond startups and nonprofits to include alumni driving innovation inside existing nonprofit, for-profit and hybrid organisations; funding may be split among one to four winners.
Applications opened on May 20, indications of interest are due June 17, full applications run from July 1 to July 21, and finalists will pitch before judges ahead of the Sept. 18 award announcement.
