Jim Risch, 83, defeated two Republican challengers in Idaho’s Senate primary, putting the Foreign Relations Committee chairman on track to seek a fourth term in November.
Trump endorsed Risch in the solidly Republican state, where the president has won every time he has appeared on the ballot since 2016.
David Roth won the Democratic nomination, while former state Rep. Todd Achilles is running as an independent after leaving the legislature to challenge Risch.
Idaho has not elected a Democrat to the Senate in more than 50 years, making the seat one of more than a dozen Republican-held contests not considered competitive.
Republicans hold a 53-47 Senate majority, and Democrats would need to gain four GOP seats in November to retake control.
