An evening press screening of Pedro Almodóvar’s “Bitter Christmas” at Cannes was halted and the Bazin theater cleared after an attendee suffered a medical emergency.
About 15 minutes into the film, an elderly person collapsed in their seat; festival officials said the person was conscious and responsive before being taken to a hospital.
Once emergency crews finished their intervention, the screening restarted from the beginning, according to the Cannes press office.
The disruption came as Almodóvar attended the film’s simultaneous premiere in the Grand Théâtre Lumière, where the competition title was rolling out with its cast.
