OpenAI said its new Singapore partnership with the Ministry of Digital Development and Information will back the country’s AI strategy with more than S$300 million in commitments.
More than 200 Singapore-based technical roles will be created over the next few years as OpenAI sets up its first Applied AI Lab outside the United States and makes Singapore a hub for forward-deployed engineers.
The lab will focus on Singapore’s AI mission priorities, including public services, finance, healthcare and digital infrastructure, with OpenAI expecting to expand its office footprint as the team grows.
The broader program also includes AI training with the Ministry of Education and GovTech, an OpenAI Academy chapter, teacher hackathons, and a deployment-engineer training track.
OpenAI said it will also explore startup accelerators and workshops for micro-entrepreneurs and SMEs, widening AI adoption beyond large enterprises as Singapore pushes to become an AI-powered economy.
