Saga Press has released Damien Ober’s debut space-fantasy novel “Voidverse,” a sci-fi western set across falling rock worlds in an infinite void.
Ober said the book began in a 2004 dream and took shape over years, including early-morning and late-night writing sessions while he worked on Netflix’s “The OA” in Los Angeles.
The story follows a girl named Sinker and a mother seeking a cure for her sick son as they confront an evil force destroying the stone lands.
Ober said the worldbuilding drew on research into long-term weightlessness and sensory deprivation, alongside Japanese legends, international fairytales, and influences ranging from “Dune” to “The Legend of Zelda.”
