Maureen Galindo, a Democratic House candidate in Texas, said in an Instagram post she would turn the Karnes ICE Detention Center into a prison for “American Zionists” and former ICE officers if elected.
The backlash widened after Galindo also wrote that the site would serve as a “castration processing center for pedophiles” and later said she opposed “Zionist Jews,” accusing them of controlling media, banks and politicians.
May 26 runoff rival Johnny Garcia is the moderate in the newly redrawn 35th District, where Galindo’s campaign had already drawn scrutiny after Lead Left PAC — a group tied to Republicans, according to the New York Times — boosted her in the primary.
Texas Democrats and national party figures distanced themselves from her, with state Rep. James Talarico refusing to campaign for her, Sen. Ruben Gallego saying she should never hold office, and Rep. Jared Moskowitz urging broader denunciation.
The episode lands amid a broader rise in antisemitic incidents cited by the Anti-Defamation League, which reported assaults involving deadly weapons up 39% as some Jewish Americans seek self-defense training.
