  • Federal prosecutors charged 40-year-old Sunny Manhertz in Boston with unlawful voting by an alien and ballot fraud after alleging he cast ballots from 2008 through 2024.
  • A lawful permanent resident since 1987, Manhertz allegedly checked "Yes" to a U.S. citizenship question on a 2016 Massachusetts voter registration form and never became a citizen.
  • Saugus records show votes in the 2012, 2016, 2020 and 2024 federal elections, and prosecutors said he kept presenting himself as a qualified voter by signing nomination papers as recently as 2026.
  • Investigators said Manhertz admitted on May 11 that he had voted since 2008, and cell-site data placed his phone near his assigned polling place on Nov. 5, 2024.
  • The case follows other non-citizen voting charges highlighted by FBI Director Kash Patel and carries a maximum penalty of 6 years in prison.
