2737 Larimer St. will house Scott Boren’s new Sandbox VR franchise by summer, adding a three-game-room virtual reality venue to Denver’s RiNo district.
Boren, a Denver native who spent much of his career in Hong Kong, said he chose RiNo over downtown after opening two Virginia locations and seeing continued investment flow into the neighborhood.
Up to six players can use headsets, haptic vests and motion sensors in each room, paying $55 to $60 per person for games ranging from alien battles to Netflix-licensed "Squid Game" and "Stranger Things" experiences.
Corporate outings are a key target for the business, with Boren saying the format appeals beyond younger gamers and has drawn customers as old as 75 at his Virginia Beach site.
The opening adds to Sandbox VR’s global footprint and becomes the brand’s second Colorado location, alongside an existing franchise at Park Meadows Mall in Lone Tree.
As home VR gets cheaper, can $60 location-based experiences like Sandbox VR survive long-term?
Will high-tech venues help RiNo thrive, or displace the local culture that made the district unique?
