Golfweek reported Garrick Higgo has split with Austin Gaugert and rehired Nick Cavendish-Pell ahead of the CJ Cup Byron Nelson.
The change follows a two-stroke penalty at last week's PGA Championship for missing his opening-round tee time, a setback that left Higgo one shot outside the cut line.
Higgo said he was "on time, but late," adding that he had no watch or phone while Gaugert was already on the tee box; he still opened with a 1-under 69 before shooting 76 on Friday.
The switch reunites Higgo with Cavendish-Pell, who was on the bag for his 2021 Palmetto Championship win, while Gaugert caddied during his 2025 Corales Puntacana victory.
The 29-year-old South African has made 5 of 13 cuts this season and has yet to post a top-25 finish.
Is a simple timekeeping error a symptom of deeper issues derailing Garrick Higgo's professional golf season?
Was firing his caddie a genuine reset for Garrick Higgo, or a scapegoat for his own major championship blunder?
