Four organizers tied to the Gaza-bound flotilla were sanctioned Tuesday alongside Samidoun coordinators and Hamas-aligned Muslim Brotherhood operatives, with Washington accusing them of enabling Hamas financing and support.
Treasury and State said Hamas used diaspora groups, religious institutions and purported civil-society networks to back the flotilla, sustain its rule in Gaza and facilitate terrorist activity beyond the territory.
The move followed Israel’s interception of roughly 41 vessels off Cyprus and the detention of 428 activists from more than 40 countries, a mission organizers said was delivering aid and challenging the Gaza blockade.
Those designated include Spain-based Saif Abukishek and Jordan-based Hisham Abu Mahfuz of the Popular Conference for Palestinians Abroad, plus Belgium-based Mohammed Khatib and Madrid-based Jaldia Abubakra linked to Samidoun.
The sanctions freeze any U.S.-based assets and bar Americans from dealing with the targets, extending a broader Trump administration push against activist and nonprofit networks it says mask support for Hamas.
