David Schutzenhofer, general manager of Trump National Bedminster since 2006, advised the Lincoln Memorial Reflecting Pool renovation and helped recruit a contractor, federal documents and an Interior spokeswoman said.
The Interior Department said Schutzenhofer served as an unpaid volunteer rather than a temporary government employee, a status that avoided ethics training and conflict-of-interest pledges required for formal appointees.
Katie Martin, the department spokeswoman, called him a patriotic volunteer and a hospitality leader, while saying he did not direct federal contracts; Schutzenhofer and the Trump Organization did not respond.
The disclosure adds detail to Trump's earlier comments on the project: he first said he chose a contractor that had worked on a pool at his Sterling, Virginia, golf club, then later said he did not know the firm.
