$20 billion in planned extra capital for UBS is now likely to be reduced after a parliamentary committee debate centered entirely on easing the government's proposal.
May 4 deliberations in the Upper House's Economic Affairs and Taxation Committee produced numerous change requests, including proposals to halve the increase or cut it even further.
Some lawmakers also want the requirement tied to the size of UBS's foreign operations, a structure that would further lower the burden on the bank.
