Allegiant Adds 8 Florida Routes as Spirit's Collapse Opens 4 Fort Lauderdale Slots

Four of the eight new routes will launch from Fort Lauderdale this fall, sending Allegiant to Boston, Omaha, Pittsburgh and Kansas City from Spirit Airlines' former home base.
Three of those Fort Lauderdale routes had been flown by Spirit before it folded earlier this month, and two—Boston and Pittsburgh—will put Allegiant in direct competition with JetBlue.
The broader expansion also adds Florida service from St. Pete-Clearwater, Orlando Sanford and Punta Gorda, reaching 12 cities overall, with most flights starting in early October and one on Nov. 19.
The move extends Allegiant's Florida push just days after it closed its acquisition of Sun Country Airlines, reinforcing its bid to capture leisure demand and a larger South Florida foothold.
