Prolonged time at full charge accelerates lithium-ion aging, so the feature is designed to reduce stress on battery cells and extend long-term battery health.
One UI 7.0 also offers Adaptive protection, which pauses charging at 80% while the user sleeps and tops the phone up to 100% shortly before wake-up.
Battery Protection is not enabled by default, meaning users must switch it on manually in Settings if they want to avoid faster degradation and possible battery replacement costs later.
