Production of Stellantis’ new fully electric “E-Car” is set to begin in 2028 at its Pomigliano plant near Naples, with the compact model priced at about €15,000 and aimed at high volumes.
The group says the car is meant to revive Europe’s shrinking low-cost segment, where electrification costs, tougher safety rules and a push for higher-margin larger vehicles have squeezed out entry-level models.
Stellantis plans to use partnerships to cut development costs and speed the launch; earlier reporting identified Chinese partner Leapmotor as the main technology partner.
The project also supports Filosa’s push to raise Europe’s weak plant utilization, with Italian unions saying the new model could eventually bring Pomigliano to full employment while the Fiat Panda stays in production until at least 2030.
