Abuja on Monday saw Nigeria unveil three free tax-dispute tools—a Tax Ombud website, toll-free call centre and case-management system—giving taxpayers and businesses a digital route to file complaints and seek mediation.
The platforms let users lodge cases online, track them in real time and access alternative dispute resolution without prolonged litigation, part of a push to make tax administration more accessible and less arbitrary.
Finance Minister Taiwo Oyedele said the Office of the Tax Ombud should strengthen taxpayer protection, trust and voluntary compliance, while Information Minister Mohammed Idris tied it to broader economic reforms.
The office, led by Nigeria’s first Tax Ombudsman John Nwabueze, was created under Part Six of the Joint Revenue Board of Nigeria Establishment Act 2025.
