Andrew Malkinson told the BBC he felt relief and anger after Paul Quinn was convicted last month for the 2003 rape that sent Malkinson to prison for more than 17 years.
Quinn, 52, was found guilty of rape, strangulation and grievous bodily harm after DNA from the victim's clothing and an untested medical instrument linked him to the attack.
Malkinson's conviction was quashed in 2023 after prosecutors accepted the DNA pointed to the real attacker, while the Court of Appeal found potentially helpful evidence had not been disclosed to his defence.
A judge-led inquiry is still examining how Malkinson was wrongly convicted, a key step in his compensation fight, while police watchdog investigators review Greater Manchester Police and six officers.
Greater Manchester Police are also re-examining unsolved violent cases that Quinn may be linked to, saying there are likely other victims.
