More than $200 billion is now slated for Meta’s Hyperion campus in Richland Parish, a project the company expects to start operating in late 2028 and scale to 5 gigawatts of compute capacity.
The expansion reflects Mark Zuckerberg’s push to build the world’s biggest AI facility as Meta tries to regain ground in the AI race by locking in land, chips, power and financing.
Louisiana helped clear the way through private negotiations, tax breaks and a $12.5 million land sale, while Blue Owl and other investors financed most of the campus so Meta kept only a 20% stake.
The buildout is already reshaping the parish: up to 7,500 construction workers are expected, land prices and rents are rising, and Entergy plans 10 gas-fired turbines plus heavy water use to support the site.
