Chan, Chakrabarti Battle for No. 2 Spot at 20% as Wiener Holds Near 40%

Three recent polls put Connie Chan and Saikat Chakrabarti essentially tied for second at about 20%, while Scott Wiener is widely expected to finish first with roughly 40% in the June 2 primary.
That fight for the second runoff slot is turning bitter and may help Wiener, whose camp has praised Chan and highlighted polling showing her neck-and-neck with Chakrabarti.
Political consultants say Chakrabarti likely needs to lead by several points now because Chan’s Chinese American base is often undercounted in polls and her labor allies can add a late turnout push.
With 470,539 registered voters and turnout seen below 50%, strategists estimate 50,000 to 75,000 votes could be enough for second place, easing Chan’s path despite trailing in fundraising.
