Bill Belichick said his Hall of Fame exclusion was "out of my control" after falling short of the 40 votes needed for the Class of 2026.
Asked on Sean Hannity’s podcast whether the decision was political, Belichick declined to speculate and said only the 50-member selection committee could explain its vote.
The eight-time Super Bowl champion said he is focused on his job at North Carolina and on the players there, rather than on the January snub.
Belichick also highlighted support from figures including Tom Brady and Donald Trump, saying he appreciated the backing from football and beyond.
The comments come as the former Patriots coach, who won 6 Super Bowls in 24 seasons in New England, begins his post-NFL chapter in college football.
