A 12-minute standing ovation greeted Nicolas Winding Refn's out-of-competition film "Her Private Hell" at Cannes on Monday, the festival's longest applause so far.
The reaction topped Ryusuke Hamaguchi's 11-minute salute for "All of a Sudden" and James Gray's 10-minute reception for "Paper Tiger," though Refn was seen urging the crowd on after the lights came up.
"Her Private Hell" stars Sophie Thatcher, Havana Rose Liu, Kristine Froseth and Charles Melton in a futuristic hotel-set story about women making a sci-fi film while a killer called Leather Man stalks nearby.
Refn, who won Cannes best director for 2011's "Drive," is returning with a film that NEON will release domestically on July 24; a trailer also dropped Monday.
