Education Department Launches Pell Grants for 8-Week Job Training Starting July 1

July 1 will mark the start of Workforce Pell Grants, letting students use federal aid for short-term training tied to high-skill, high-wage and in-demand jobs.
The Education Department said the final rule was made available for inspection Monday and will be published Tuesday, extending Pell support beyond traditional degree and certificate pathways.
Programs can run in as little as 8 weeks and cover fields such as electrical work, HVAC and carpentry, with colleges required to cap tuition and fees based on graduates' earnings.
Linda McMahon said the initiative is meant to ease labor shortages in skilled trades, manufacturing and healthcare, citing a pipeline in which only 2 workers replace every 5 leaving and a projected 2.1 million shortfall by 2030.
