Dallas ranked eighth worst for mosquitoes this summer in Orkin’s annual city list, improving from seventh a year earlier based on treatments commissioned in the prior year.
Orkin said shifting climate conditions are broadening mosquito activity beyond traditional hot spots, with Midwestern cities such as St. Louis, Milwaukee and Minneapolis jumping after unusual outbreaks.
Dallas County still faces health risks during peak season: 1 person died last year from West Nile neuroinvasive disease, and 7 others tested positive.
County health officials monitor West Nile from April through November and advise residents to use DEET repellent and drain standing water after recent rains.
