Two separate overnight break-ins in Philadelphia ended with residents shooting the intruders, leaving one man dead and another hospitalized, police said.
On Griffith Street in Rhawnhurst around 1:30 a.m., a man believed to be in his 40s allegedly forced open a family home's front door, entered a daughter's room and was shot in the chest after refusing to drop a stick.
That intruder died at a hospital, and investigators said a suspicious car was parked outside the home.
Near midnight in Parkside, a 33-year-old man was found with multiple gunshot wounds at a Sunoco after his ex-partner reported shooting someone trying to climb through her front window on Cambridge Street.
Philadelphia police are still investigating both shootings, including the circumstances of the break-ins and the residents' use of force.
