A 90-minute hands-on session left The Adventures of Elliot looking like a strong throwback to classic top-down Zelda, with dungeon design centered on locked doors, mirror puzzles, bombable walls and boss-key progression.
Square Enix's action RPG adds more depth than imitation alone, pairing eight-direction combat with upgradeable weapons and Faie companion abilities such as speed boosts, warps and ranged fire attacks.
Outside dungeons, the preview highlighted a dense overworld in Philabieldia, where secret caves, shrines and time-shifted regions across different Ages suggest a sizable exploration-heavy adventure.
The HD-2D presentation also stood out in the PS5 build, and the preview expressed optimism it will translate well to Switch 2, the game's only Nintendo platform.
The Adventures of Elliot: The Millennium Tales is developed by Team Asano and Claytechworks and launches on Switch 2 on June 18.
