AFRICOM said U.S. and Nigerian forces carried out another round of kinetic strikes against ISIS fighters in northeastern Nigeria on Monday, with no U.S. or Nigerian casualties reported.
The follow-up operation came days after a joint strike killed Abu-Bilal al-Minuki, whom President Donald Trump described as ISIS’s second-in-command globally.
AFRICOM said assessments of the latest strike are still underway, but argued removing the militants would further reduce ISIS’s ability to plan attacks against the U.S. and partner countries.
Pete Hegseth said U.S. forces and Nigeria had hunted al-Minuki for months, while the latest action fits a broader U.S. campaign that also included strikes on more than 30 ISIS targets in Syria in February.
