Ukrainian officials said Russia’s overnight May 17-18 barrage involved 546 drones and missiles, including 14 ballistic missiles, with Dnipro and Dnipropetrovsk Oblast the main targets.
Ukraine’s air force said it shot down 503 drones and four cruise missiles, but 18 missiles and 16 drones still hit 34 locations, while debris fell at 11 more sites.
Dnipro suffered heavy damage to civilian, energy and residential infrastructure, and authorities said strikes also hit Odesa, Chernihiv, Kharkiv, Kirovohrad and Kherson regions; at least 33 civilians, including three children, were injured.
A Chinese-owned ship approaching Odesa port was also struck, underscoring the attack’s reach beyond frontline military targets.
The strike fits a recent pattern of heavier Russian ballistic-missile use as Ukraine faces air-defense strain and global shortages of Patriot interceptors.
