92% of Australian home wi-fi setups are not delivering their potential speeds, NBN Co said, warning many households are missing out on broadband performance they already pay for.
More than half of routers are over two years old and 59% are placed poorly, with common mistakes including keeping them away from high-use areas or behind obstructions such as walls, furniture and even fish tanks.
53% of households do not try to fix wi-fi issues until they notice a slowdown, though NBN Co said simply moving a router can lift performance without extra spending.
The warning follows NBN upgrades for more than 2.7 million households and 44,000 full-fibre upgrades in April, underscoring that faster network connections still depend on in-home equipment and setup.
