Chicago police charged Tatiana Maxwell, 25, with first-degree murder after a 1-month-old girl was fatally stabbed Friday morning in Gage Park.
The infant was identified as Nyhnia Stovall, and detectives said Maxwell knew the baby and that the case appears to be domestic-related.
Police said Maxwell was arrested moments after the stabbing, a knife was recovered at the scene, and she was later taken to the University of Chicago Hospital after jumping from an upper-level window.
Authorities have not confirmed Maxwell's exact relationship to the baby, leaving a key question in a case that unfolded in the 3000 block of West 59th Street on Chicago's Southwest Side.
