Virtuos said it is eager to adapt Grand Theft Auto 5 and Red Dead Redemption 2 for Nintendo Switch, citing confidence built from its earlier Rockstar work.
The studio pointed to 2017's L.A. Noire port—Rockstar's first Switch release—as proof it can bring demanding games to Nintendo hardware without major compromises.
Andy Fong said that project required heavy optimization for the Switch's weaker CPU and GPU, including voxel-based occlusion culling, finer mesh breakdowns and a shift from 32-bit to 64-bit.
Virtuos split the effort between improving rendering on PC and getting the game running on Switch dev kits, while preserving L.A. Noire's atmosphere and adding selective enhancements.
The comments came in a retrospective on L.A. Noire, released on May 17, 2011, as Virtuos highlighted the port as a turning point in its relationship with Rockstar and Nintendo.
