Maurene Comey was fired from the Justice Department after nearly 10 years as a federal prosecutor, with the Trump administration giving no reason for her dismissal.
James Comey said his daughter was terminated "only because she has my last name," calling the move immoral and illegal, while lawyers for both Comeys declined to comment.
Her exit hit a prosecutor who handled major cases involving Jeffrey Epstein, Ghislaine Maxwell and Sean "Diddy" Combs, underscoring the prominence of her DOJ role.
Troy Edwards Jr., one of James Comey's sons-in-law, also left the department, resigning as a federal prosecutor in Virginia the day James Comey was first indicted in September 2025.
Edwards later said he could not remain in a system where "the president wanted" his children's grandfather imprisoned, widening the picture of family fallout from Trump's campaign against James Comey.
