232.348 mph on Palou’s final four-lap run put the reigning Indianapolis 500 winner on pole for the May 24 race, edging Alexander Rossi for his second pole at the Brickyard.
Sunday’s qualifying schedule was compressed after torrential weather on Saturday forced organizers to reshuffle sessions, setting up the Fast Six shootout that decided the grid.
Rossi qualified second at 231.990 mph and David Malukas third at 231.877 mph, locking out the front row behind Palou.
Felix Rosenqvist, quickest entering the Fast Six, faded to fourth, while Santino Ferrucci and Pato O’Ward completed the top six.
