Israel’s cabinet unanimously cleared a preliminary work plan for the National AI Directorate, committing to make 5,000 advanced GPUs available annually to academia and the public sector from 2027 to 2032.
The plan also targets AI talent and deployment, with funding to deepen academic human capital, lure expatriates back to Israel, and set up acceleration centers for applied AI projects.
Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu called the package a significant budget move to build supercomputing infrastructure and applied laboratories, saying a broader 10-year national AI plan will be brought to government soon.
The directorate, created in October 2025 within the Prime Minister’s Office and led by Brig.-Gen. (res.) Erez Askal, is intended to strengthen Israel’s technological edge, economic resilience and national security.
