Jakob Krise, 18, was arrested shortly before 7:30 a.m. Saturday after police said he struck and killed SUNY Potsdam sophomore Emily Mae Smith and fled the scene.
Police said the crash happened just after 3:30 a.m. on Pierrepont Avenue; Smith, 20, of Greenville, was taken to Canton Potsdam Hospital and pronounced dead.
Krise, of Brasher Falls, faces multiple charges, including driving while intoxicated and leaving the scene of a fatal crash.
Smith was a member of the women's basketball team, and SUNY Potsdam held a moment of silence for her at Saturday's graduation.
