Axios reported Cuba has acquired more than 300 military drones and discussed using them against Guantanamo Bay, U.S. warships and potentially Key West, putting the issue at the center of U.S. security concerns.
Since 2023, Cuba has bought attack drones from Russia and Iran, according to classified intelligence cited by Axios, and within the past month officials sought additional drones and other military assets from Russia.
Mario Díaz-Balart said the drones' presence just 90 miles from Florida and near critical infrastructure shows Cuba's regime is a direct national security threat; Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth gave the same assessment to Congress last week.
