More than 700 rescuers searched southern China's Huanjiang Maonan Autonomous County on Sunday after a pickup truck carrying 15 workers fell from a low-water bridge into a river.
One worker was confirmed dead, five were rescued and nine remained missing after the truck was transporting laborers to a sweet potato farm in Guangxi, state media said.
Underwater sonar devices, dinghies and drones were deployed to locate both the missing workers and the submerged truck.
Heavy rainfall had swollen the river into torrents and raised landslide risks, complicating the rescue operation.
