Shane Massey Rejects Trump Bid to Redraw South Carolina's 1 Democratic House Seat

Shane Massey, the Republican leader of South Carolina's Senate, said he refused a call from President Trump to back a midterm redistricting push and instead voted to protect James Clyburn's district.
Trump wanted South Carolina to follow Republican-led states such as Texas and Tennessee in redrawing maps to erase more Democratic seats, but Massey argued against trying to gerrymander Democrats out of existence.
South Carolina already has a heavily tilted map: Democrats win about 40% of the statewide presidential vote, yet hold just 1 of the state's 7 U.S. House districts.
