Gwi-Yeop Son said Azerbaijan has become a key UN partner on sustainable development, with Baku's hosting of COP29 and WUF13 putting the country at the center of global urban and climate talks.
The UN official said that role is now backed by a new 2026-2030 cooperation framework focused on two tracks: inclusive socio-economic growth and climate resilience, green growth and a just transition.
Son also highlighted Azerbaijan's $3.5 million contribution to the SPECA Multi-Partner Trust Fund and said the UN is supporting projects on resilient cities, SDG localization, digitalization, youth engagement and regional connectivity.
For WUF13, he said the UN will push integrated urban policy linking housing, mobility, jobs, climate resilience and local governance, while using the forum to deepen partnerships with governments, lenders and local authorities.
He added that Azerbaijan's reconstruction efforts and South Caucasus location give it wider potential to drive regional cooperation on trade corridors, climate risks, digital infrastructure and post-conflict recovery.
