Rudy Giuliani, 81, said he had a “very significant spiritual experience” while in an early-May coma caused by severe viral pneumonia, speaking publicly after returning to his online show on May 13.
He said the episode felt like being “on line” for a trial with St. Peter, with a decisive intervention by his late friend Peter Powers; Giuliani wrote down the words after waking and later discussed them with a priest.
Doctors had hospitalized Giuliani in critical but stable condition on May 3 after breathing problems worsened following a trip to Paris, placing him on a ventilator and calling a priest for last rites before his condition improved by May 5.
Giuliani said he now feels “100%” recovered. The report notes his doctors have not labeled the episode a near-death experience, though such accounts are often reported after critical illness.
