Police said emergency crews were alerted at 9:55 a.m.; the man was brought ashore by vessel to Geordie Bay, where a rescue helicopter had arrived for a planned mainland evacuation.
Surf Life Saving WA reported a five-metre white shark was seen about 80 metres offshore near the time of the attack, prompting authorities to urge extra caution in the Geordie Bay area.
