Gunther beat Royce Keys to become the No. 1 contender for Cody Rhodes’ Undisputed WWE title, then was immediately laid out by Rhodes with Cross Rhodes.
Nick Aldis booked the contender match after Keys interrupted Gunther’s contract signing for Clash in Italy, turning the title path into an in-ring showdown.
Solo Sikoa briefly tilted the bout by helping Keys escape a Sleeper Hold and introducing a steel chair, but Keys struck Sikoa instead and Gunther recovered with a powerbomb for the win.
Elsewhere on SmackDown, Trick Williams won his hometown return over The Miz, while Damian Priest beat Tama Tonga before Talla Tonga and Sikoa attacked him after the match.
