Boeing CEO Kelly Ortberg and GE Aerospace CEO Larry Culp met senior officials at China’s NDRC in Beijing on Friday, a day after Trump said China agreed to buy 200 Boeing jets.
Trump also said the package includes 400-450 GE Aerospace engines and could eventually expand to 750 planes, but neither side has provided a timeline or deal details.
The sparse disclosure surprised analysts, who said the post-summit meetings likely aim to turn leader-level pledges into regulatory approvals and delivery schedules.
The order would mark China’s first purchase of U.S.-made commercial aircraft in nearly a decade, though it fell short of market expectations for roughly 500 jets and pushed both companies’ shares lower.
